Mocho Gears Up for premier Pear Festival and homecoming

Mocho, Clarendon. June 5, 2026. Residents and diaspora Mochonians are in full
preparation mode the first Pear Festival scheduled for August 8, 2026 in the community.
The Planning Committee, community members and representatives from partner
organisation, the Social Development Commission (SDC) met recently to mobilise around
preparing value added pear dishes and working with farmers to showcase the pear
varieties that the rural community is known for.
“We have the best pears in Jamaica and we want to invite Jamaicans here and overseas to come
and experience that,” said Lawrence Weathers, a founding member of the Mocho Homecoming
Limited (MHL) which is spearheading the event.
This much-anticipated event, which will be launched on June 11, will highlight the economic
potential of avocado to the nation’s economy, while celebrating the resilience, talent, and
creativity of the Mocho community.
The launch, slated for The Verandah, Juici Empowerment Park, Clarendon, under the
distinguished patronage of Custos of Clarendon, Ms Edith Chin will engage sponsors, media
partners, and community leaders to build momentum for the 2026 celebration.
The Festival will feature a series of vibrant community activities including:
A Church Service on August 2, 2026 at Brixton Hill United Church
Night Football Competitions at Mount Airy and Mocho Community Centres on August 2
and 9 respectively
Health Fair at Ashley Primary School on August 5, 2026
Flagship Event: The Mocho Pear Festival at Lennon High School on August 8, 2026
The Pear Festival will highlight Mocho’s signature produce through a creative culinary showcase
featuring local chefs and culinary students. Visitors can expect food demonstrations, avocado in
cosmetics and hair care, family entertainment, live performances, and exhibitions that blend
Mocho’s heritage with modern innovation. Engaging presentations on how to leverage ‘the green
gold’ of avocado will also be facilitated. Sponsors include AVOSAC Jamaica Limited, THLC

Limited, SB Metals, Central Expressions, Golf View Hotel, CHANGE Communications Limited,

According to Mocho Homecoming Limited, the event aims to engage more than 2,000
community members and reach over 100,000 people locally and internationally through its
media and marketing campaign.
“This Homecoming is more than an event — it’s a movement,” said Weathers, said. “It’s about
reconnecting with our roots, celebrating who we are, and inspiring the next generation to carry
the Mocho spirit forward.”
